Palo Santo has been valued for generations in parts of South America, particularly Peru and Ecuador, where its beautifully aromatic wood has been associated with traditional cleansing, ritual and medicinal practices.
Literally meaning “Holy Wood” or “Sacred Wood”, Palo Santo has a distinctive sweet, woody, citrus-like aroma when burned. It is traditionally burned as aromatic incense and today is widely used in spiritual and Magickal practice for cleansing a space and creating an atmosphere suited to meditation, intention work and ritual.
Palo Santo belongs to the Burseraceae botanical family, the same plant family that includes frankincense and myrrh.

HOW TO USE
Use a candle, match or lighter to ignite your stick. Then hold it at a 45-degree angle pointing the tip down towards the flame. Allow the stick to burn for 30 seconds to a minute and then blow it out. From there you can either place the stick in a heat proof dish or incense burner and leave to smoulder, or you can use it for smudging. If left to rest the stick will smoulder and release smoke for approx 5 mins. If used for smudging, or you are waiving it around a space, it will smoulder for longer.
